FAQ-Kids
No. Children under the age of 12 must have a parent/guardian in the building at all times.
The library provides various activities for children based on age and grade. These can be found listed online or in your newsletter, which is mailed out to Syosset residents four times a year. For those interested in non-library related activities, feel free to browse our Community page, which provides links for various local places of interest.
All children must register in advance for a program. However, if the program is full and the child meets the age requirements they will be permitted in after waiting 15 minutes if all registered children do not show up. If the program is not full and they meet the age requirements they will be permitted in. In both circumstances, if the program has a fee it must be paid upon admittance to the class.
FAQ-Teens
Assuming you are a teen who is at least 12 years of age, you need to have a green library card. Teens can use a computer for 2 hours (or longer if nobody is waiting).
Teen programs are for students in grades 6-12. Parents are asked not to attend programs (except for special programs like Open Mic Night or joint programs like College Prep programs).
Unless stated that there is a fee to be paid in person, you can register using Online Program Registration using your library card, over the phone (516-921-7161 ext. 242) or by email. Please pay attention to sign-up dates since popular programs (such as our volunteer programs) fill up quickly.
